Even as enrollment trends shift across Bristol County, Dighton-Rehoboth remains committed to offering students a full, well-rounded public education. From academics and CTE pathways to the arts, athletics, preschool opportunities, and hands-on learning, we’re focused on what matters most - our students!

As Superintendent Bill Runey shared with Coastal ABC, we’re optimistic about the future and proud of the opportunities available in our schools. 💚💛

During her time at Dighton‑Rehoboth Regional High School, Abigail Behm was a varsity field hockey goalie and team captain, where she first learned the importance of leadership, discipline, and teamwork. When she wasn’t on the field or running track, she could often be found in the art hallway creating pieces for AP 2D Studio Design and AP Drawing. While art was a creative passion, math ultimately captured her heart—especially thanks to her teacher, Mrs. Enos, whose influence inspired Abigail to pursue a career in education.

Abigail’s story is one of passion meeting purpose. Whether she’s helping a student master quadratic equations or supporting them through challenging days, she believes teaching goes far beyond academics—it’s about connection.
“I love interacting with my students every day and forming bonds beyond the classroom,” Abigail shares. “High school goes by so quickly, so it’s important to find balance—work hard, but also enjoy being young. Push yourself to do the things you don’t want to do; that’s how you build a bright future.”

Fast forward to today, and Abigail has come full circle. At just 24 years old, she is now a math teacher at DR, teaching Algebra I, Geometry, and Honors Geometry. After earning dual bachelor’s degrees in Secondary Education and Mathematics from Bridgewater State University and being inducted into the Pi Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society, Abigail returned to the district to give back to the same community that helped shape her.

What makes her journey even more meaningful is that her youngest brother is now a junior at DR.
“My first year teaching was his freshman year,” Abigail says. “It’s been incredibly special to experience his high school years alongside him.”

Happy Holidays

I graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School in 1965 and went on to Northeastern University, earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts as a math major while playing four years on the men’s basketball team. In 1970, I married my high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Hopkins, and soon after began my career in education. I taught mathematics and coached freshmen basketball at Somerset High School from 1970 to 1973.

In 1973, Superintendent Joseph C. Harrington hired me to return to DRRHS as a math teacher and boys’ basketball coach. I spent the next 24 years on the sidelines, and in 1990, I was honored to serve as President of the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches’ Association. I also completed my Master of Education in School Administration from Bridgewater State University in 1984 and served as Mathematics Department Head from 1991 to 1995.

From 1997 to 2002, I served as Assistant Principal at DRRHS before accepting the position of Athletic Director at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, where I worked until my retirement in 2006. Along the way, I also served in the United States Army Reserves from 1970 to 1976.

Liz and I raised two children who make us incredibly proud: Erika (DRRHS 1995, Duke University 1999) and Steven (DRRHS 2002, Western New England University 2006). Our greatest joy now comes from our four grandchildren—Benjamin, Emerson, Matthew, and Annie—who fill our lives with energy and laughter.

In retirement, I enjoy golf, fishing, and staying connected to the community. In 2025, I was proud to return once more to DRRHS as a member of the branding committee for the high school’s new visual identity.

Looking back, I am grateful for a career centered on education, athletics, and service—and for the family and community that have supported me throughout the journey.

Special Education
On November 17 and 18, DRRHS welcomed students from Dighton Middle School and Beckwith Middle School for an inside look at our seven Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs!

Students explored hands-on learning spaces in Automotive Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Carpentry, Engineering & Drafting, Early Childhood Education, Marketing & Entrepreneurship, and TV & Media Production. They asked questions, checked out real tools and equipment, and discovered how each program could connect to future careers and even college pathways.

Of course, no DR visit is complete without a little fun! Many students walked away with swag like DR bracelets, keychains, hats, and other surprises. More importantly, they left with a better understanding of all the exciting opportunities waiting for them at our high school.

We’re thrilled to help our future Falcons start imagining which path might be the perfect fit to shape their interests, talents, and goals. We can’t wait to ignite their curiosity and see where it takes them next!

World Kindness Day recognition
Within the past few days, community members, students, and staff gathered at our two elementary schools to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of veterans with two Veterans Day Tribute Assemblies.

Students exemplified characteristics of Dighton-Rehoboth’s DRiving Toward 2030 Strategic Plan, including community engagement, communication, self and social awareness, and collaboration, extending heartfelt gratitude through their music, artwork, essays, and readings.

To the local veterans who joined us for the celebrations, and to all veterans past and present - thank you for your service to our country and our community.
