The seventh graders at DMS finished up their electricity unit last week. For their culminating project, students had to design an athletic shoe that has electrical components that enhance athletic performance. Students had to create a design, label, and product description. #WeAreDR, #DT2030, #EIS

We love seeing the connections being built in our school community! 💚💛

SRO Bennett has truly enjoyed being part of our morning announcements, and last week she made a special visit to Mrs. Waddicor’s fourth grade class and students were so excited to have her join them!

You can often find SRO Bennett spending time with students during lunches and recess, building positive relationships and being a familiar, friendly presence throughout the building.

This is a wonderful example of community involvement in our schools and the strong partnership we share with the Dighton Police Department. #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030

From the first freshman class at DR in 1960 to an award-winning novelist, Bruce DeSilva’s journey began with inspiring teachers who sparked a lifelong curiosity. His career in investigative journalism took him from The Providence Journal to The Associated Press—and ultimately to writing fiction, where his debut novel won the Edgar Award. Once a Falcon, always a Falcon. Read his full story here!

The sixth graders at Dighton Middle School were actively engaged in applying their understanding of sound waves by designing and constructing their own instruments. Through this hands-on activity, students demonstrated how waves exhibit repeating patterns characterized by specific amplitude, frequency, and wave length, and explored the relationship between a wave’s amplitude and its energy (Standard 6.MS-PS4-1). #WeAreDR #DT2030 #EIS

Superintendent Runey visited Mrs. Grillo’s class after hearing about their incredible bracelet initiative, with proceeds supporting a DES student facing hardship. He stopped by to share how impressed he was with their efforts and how their work connects to the district’s Portrait of a Graduate, especially the Collaborator, Communicator, and Future-Ready pillars.

During his visit, he also took the opportunity to teach students about ROI and installment plans, even placing a special order of his own! 💚💛

Thank you, Superintendent Runey, for always making the time to visit and for showing our students what it truly means to be #WeAreDR.

Recess isn’t just a break. It might actually be the best part of the school day!

Every day, kids head outside and just get to be kids. They run around, make up games, solve little playground problems, and laugh with friends. When they come back inside, they’re happier, more focused, and ready to learn. The American Academy of Pediatrics even calls recess a crucial part of child development, and research continues to show it has only positive benefits, from improving focus and memory to reducing disruptive behavior, strengthening social skills, and helping kids stay active and healthy. Fresh air, sunshine, and a little freedom go a long way.

Daily recess means happier kids, better learning, and a whole lot more joy. See for yourself!

Our DES students are turning creativity into kindness! 💚💛

Mrs. Grillo’s Grade 4 class has been hard at work creating beautiful rainbow loom bracelets as part of their “Crafts for a Cause” project. Students are taking orders from DES and school staff, designing custom bracelets (up to 4 colors!) and learning valuable skills in teamwork, organization, and entrepreneurship along the way.

Even more special, all proceeds will go toward funding a scholarship opportunity for a DES student who would like to participate in the A.C.E. Program but may face financial hardship. ❤️

We are so proud of our students for using their talents to give back and support one another. Thank you to everyone who has already placed an order and supported this meaningful cause!

Earlier this week, Palmer River Elementary School proudly recognized several students nominated by staff as role models for March’s Monthly Mindset: Perseverance!

Each month, PRES staff nominate students who exemplify the featured mindset. Honorees receive an award and a token for “Inchy,” our book vending machine.

These students shine in the face of challenges. They work hard, give their best effort, and never give up. They are goal-oriented and are not afraid to make mistakes, showing us all what perseverance looks like in action.

We admire their determination and look forward to recognizing even more students next week!
