As part of our commitment to supporting the district's Strategic Plan and promoting the whole child, Dighton Elementary School is excited to continue our annual Summer Kickoff tradition. Each year, students receive a special item designed to encourage fun, learning, and wellness throughout the summer months. Last year, students received summer activity buckets, and this year we are thrilled to provide every student with a summer activity bag filled with engaging items including a jump rope, frisbee, a Crayola item, a rubber ducky, a beach ball, and a free ice cream certificate generously donated by Tom and Jimmy's.

These items were carefully selected to encourage students and families to stay active, creative, and engaged during the summer break. Opportunities for outdoor play, physical activity, and creative expression support the district's Strategic Plan goals of fostering student well-being, building positive experiences beyond the classroom, and promoting healthy lifestyles. We hope these summer bags inspire our students to get outside, stay active, make memories with family and friends, and return to school in the fall refreshed and ready to learn.

We are grateful to our staff, community partners, and especially Tom and Jimmy's for helping make this initiative possible. We wish all of our DES Eagles a safe, healthy, and active summer! #WeAreDR #DT2030 #EIS 🦅☀️🏖️🍦

Yesterday, we held our Grade 4 Promotion Ceremony, and we couldn't be prouder of our students and all they have accomplished during their time at DES. It is hard to believe that they will be heading off to middle school next year! The ceremony was a wonderful celebration of their achievements, growth, and the bright futures that lie ahead.

We were honored to be joined by Superintendent Runey, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Souza, Director of Human Resources and Student Services Ms. Kelleher, and School Committee member Nicole Pavao.

A special thank you to the Grade 4 team for organizing such a memorable ceremony and to all of the families and friends who joined us to celebrate this important milestone. As our students begin this exciting new chapter, we remind them to always soar higher and shine brighter. Remember, once an Eagle, always an Eagle, and DES will always be here to support you.

Congratulations🦅💚💛 #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030

We are so proud of all of our graduates and the growth they have shown throughout the year.

Congratulations to our graduates, and a special thank you to Mrs. Johnson, Ms. B, and Ms. Marichal for organizing such a successful ceremony. We would also like to thank Superintendent Runey and School Committee member Ms. Couture for attending, and all of the wonderful DES staff who helped make this a memorable experience for our students and families. #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030🦅💚💛

Last Friday, Dighton Elementary School held its annual Fun Run, and what an incredible day it was! Students enjoyed a day filled with fun, excitement, and plenty of water activities to help keep everyone cool. One of the highlights of the event was when Mrs. Lima was dunked by the top fundraising student from each grade level, much to the delight of the crowd. Students also celebrated their hard work with lollipops and lots of smiles. The fun isn't over yet—this week, Mr. Girouard will be taped to the wall and challenged to stay there overnight as another exciting reward for our students!

A huge thank you goes out to our amazing PTO for organizing this event and to Booster for helping make it another memorable experience for our school community. Most importantly, thank you to every family, friend, and community member who donated and supported our students. Because of your generosity, we raised $35,000 that will be used to support future student experiences, enrichment opportunities, and field trips.

This event is a wonderful example of our district's DRiving Toward 2030 strategic plan in action. Through strong partnerships between families, staff, students, and the community, we are creating meaningful opportunities that enhance student engagement, build school pride, and foster a sense of belonging. The Fun Run not only promotes health and wellness but also demonstrates the power of collaboration and community investment in providing memorable learning experiences for all students.

Thank you for helping make Dighton Elementary a place where students can learn, grow, and create lasting memories together. #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030 🦅💚💛

Our bus evacuation drills were a success this morning! Students, alongside the Dighton Police Department and Bloom's Bus Lines, successfully completed emergency bus evacuation procedures.

The morning was both educational and engaging, as students practiced important safety procedures and learned what to do in the event of an emergency. Even Chief Nichols, Officer Swartz, and Officer Lopes got in on the fun, participating alongside students, while SRO Bennett supervised the activities and helped ensure everything ran smoothly.

A special thank you to Bloom's Bus Lines and the Dighton Police Department for their partnership and commitment to keeping our students safe. These hands-on experiences help students build confidence and prepare for situations we hope they never face, but are important to practice. 🚌🚔 #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030

Let's Go Red Sox!

Last Thursday, our Grade 4 students from Dighton Elementary School enjoyed their annual end of the year class trip to historic Fenway Park. The trip coincided with STEM Day, giving students the opportunity to participate in a variety of hands-on learning experiences throughout the ballpark. From exploring space science and robotics to building with LEGO® materials and engaging in interactive engineering activities, students experienced STEM learning in exciting and meaningful ways.

After the STEM activities, students stayed to watch the Red Sox game. While the Red Sox came up short on the scoreboard, the experience was a memorable one for all who attended. The day provided students with opportunities to learn, collaborate, problem-solve, and explore potential future career pathways in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

This experience directly supports the Driving Towards 2030 Strategic Plan by advancing Student Success and Achievement through engaging, real-world learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. It also aligns with Student and Staff Well-Being and Belonging by creating positive shared experiences that build school community and foster student engagement. Through hands-on STEM exploration, students were encouraged to think critically, collaborate with peers, and connect classroom learning to authentic experiences.

A special thank you to everyone who helped make this annual tradition possible. It was truly a home run of a day for our Grade 4 students! ⚾💚💛 #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030

Dighton Elementary School welcomed author and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds on Friday afternoon. Peter visited our students and shared an engaging presentation about his journey to becoming a writer and illustrator. Students were inspired by his creativity, perseverance, and love of storytelling, and we are so grateful he helped us kick off our summer reading program in such a meaningful way.

Peter even shared that we were one of the best audiences he has ever had, which made our students feel incredibly proud!

A huge thank you to our amazing Dighton PTO for making this special visit possible! As an added surprise, the PTO also selected and purchased almost five hundred books so that every DES student will receive a brand-new book by the author to launch their summer reading adventures.

Be sure to visit Peter H. Reynolds’ bookstore, The Blue Bunny, in Dedham this summer and share the secret password for a special gift!

It was truly a memorable day filled with inspiration, imagination, and joy for reading!

JiJi Visits Dighton Elementary! 🐧💚💛

Students at DES recently welcomed a very special visitor — JiJi the Penguin from ST Math! To celebrate an incredible achievement, students at every grade level enjoyed a JiJi Dance Party during recess after our school reached 80% overall progress in ST Math!

Reaching this milestone is a tremendous accomplishment and reflects the hard work, perseverance, and dedication of our students and staff. ST Math helps students strengthen their problem-solving, critical thinking, and conceptual math skills through engaging, visual learning experiences that encourage productive struggle and persistence.

This achievement directly connects to the district’s strategic plan by promoting academic excellence, student engagement, and equitable access to high-quality learning opportunities. It also supports the development of future-ready learners by encouraging students to think critically, persevere through challenges, and build confidence in mathematics. Most importantly, it demonstrates the power of working together toward a shared goal — something our DES Eagles continue to do each and every day!

Way to go, Eagles — keep up the amazing work! #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030 🦅🐧💚💛

Dighton Elementary Students in Grade 4 have been hard at work this semester with Mr. Badger and Ms. Farley bringing the DES Newspaper back to life! Through collaboration, creativity, and student voice, our young journalists researched, wrote, edited, and published stories to share with the school community.

This project highlights our commitment to the district’s strategic plan by fostering communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and authentic learning experiences that empower students to be engaged, future-ready learners.

Be sure to check out the entire first edition of the DES Newspaper in our newsletter — we are so proud of the hard work and dedication our students demonstrated in making this happen! #WeAreDR #EIS #DT2030💚💛
