What a proud moment for Dighton-Rehoboth!
On Friday, our District was officially recognized by Special Olympics Massachusetts as a Unified Champion District, celebrating our commitment to creating school communities where students of ALL abilities feel valued, connected, and included!
This recognition represents so much more than sports. It’s about friendships, teamwork, student leadership, and ensuring that every student knows they belong.
A special thank-you to Carol Jerauld, our Unified Programming Coordinator, whose passion and leadership have helped bring our districtwide vision to life. We are equally grateful to our Unified Liaisons, Coaches, staff, families, DR SEPAC, District Leadership Team, and School Committee for their ongoing commitment to this important work.
And, of course, the greatest credit belongs to our students, who show us every day what inclusion looks like in action!

🦅🍉🚴♂️ The Falcon Fender Blender Makes Its Debut at DES! 🚴♀️🍉🦅
Today was a fun and exciting day at Dighton Elementary as our brand-new Falcon Fender Blender made its official debut!
During each grade level lunch, we had some very special cyclists hop on the bike and pedal their way to making delicious watermelon smoothies for our students to sample! 🍉🥤
A huge thank you to Whitson's for purchasing the Fender Blender in an effort to make healthy eating fun and engaging for our students across the district. We can confidently say they accomplished just that! Our Falcons loved watching the smoothies being made, cheering on our riders, and trying a healthy treat!

📚🔎 Nonfiction Text Feature Detectives at Dighton Elementary School! 🔎📚
Our third graders in Mrs. Maurer’s class have been busy exploring the wonderful world of nonfiction texts! 📖✨
Using Scholastic News magazines, students became text feature detectives as they searched for headings, captions, photographs, labels, bold print, and diagrams!
Students then put their learning on display by creating posters highlighting the different text features and explaining how they help readers better understand informational texts.
We love seeing our Falcons working hard, thinking critically, and showing off their learning! 🦅💙

Over the past few days, our Falcons have had some amazing opportunities to learn from our community heroes!
A huge thank you to the Dighton Police Department and Bloom's Bus Company for teaching our students about bus safety and practicing bus evacuations to help keep everyone safe! 🚌
The fun and learning continue as we welcome the Dighton Fire Department to DES to teach our PreK and Grade 1 students all about fire safety! 🔥🚒
One of our favorite parts? When our firefighters join in the fun and dance along to Cookie Monster's Fire Safety Song! 🍪
We are so fortunate to have such wonderful community partners who take time out of their busy days to connect with our students, teach important life lessons, and make learning fun and memorable.

At Dighton Elementary School, reading is fun — especially when it is turned into a mystery! 🔍📚
Mystery, She Wrote… in Mrs. C’s Room! 🔍🎩
A haunting hat. A room full of suspects. Eight reading detectives ready to crack the case!
This week, Mrs. C’s 4th grade RTI students put their detective skills to the test in The Mystery of the Haunting Hat! Armed with highlighters and sharp thinking, students searched passages for evidence, tackled vocabulary puzzles, and filled in missing letters to unlock clues. Each discovery brought them closer to eliminating suspects and solving the mystery!
As students unlocked clues, they also unlocked their own imaginations and discovered the power of their reading and reasoning skills! They strengthened their fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and ability to make inferences while building confidence in their ideas.
Teamwork and lively discussions made this reading adventure full of suspense — because in Mrs. C’s room, every word could be a clue! 🔎✨

Fall Picture Day
Falcons Fueling Families is here. 💚💛
Today, we unveiled a new food pantry created to support Dighton-Rehoboth families with respect, dignity, and care, because our schools are about more than educating students. They’re about supporting the communities we serve.
Superintendent Bill Runey shared that if we are serious about igniting curiosity, shaping the future, and empowering students, we also have to recognize that students do their best when they are also supported at home. A day without school should not have to be a day without food.
This vision became action today, thanks to an incredible group of community partners: Sterling Container Sales & Rentals, Whitsons Culinary Group, Hannaford, Blounts Fine Foods, and Signs by Tomorrow. A special connection makes this effort even more meaningful: Sterling Container Sales owner Lindsay Bates is a Dighton-Rehoboth graduate, bringing this gift back home to the community that helped shape her.
We’re grateful to our supporters, school leaders, and legislative officials who joined us for today’s ribbon cutting - and especially to Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, Michele Blackburn, for bringing all the pieces together.
We Are DR. And this is one more way we’re living that promise. 💚💛

At Dighton Elementary, our littlest learners in PreK have been busy having fun and learning! 🍎🍂💚💛
Students are learning how to start their day with a Morning Meeting, where they practice greeting one another and saying “HI” to all of their friends. They have also been exploring measurement, apples, and all things fall through fun, hands-on, interactive lessons.
We love seeing our youngest Falcons learning, exploring, and building friendships together! 🦅🍁

🔵 International Dot Day at Dighton Elementary School.! 🟡
On September 15, Dighton Elementary School celebrated International Dot Day, a special day dedicated to creativity, community, and self-expression, inspired by The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.
Last week, our wonderful librarian, Mrs. Gustafson, shared The Dot with each class and encouraged every student in grades K–4 to “make their mark” by creating a unique dot that reflects what makes them special.
Mrs. Gustafson then brought all of the students’ dots together into one beautiful, colorful display, showing how our individual creativity can come together to create something truly inspiring. What a wonderful reminder of the power of collaboration, individuality, and community!
🎨 A special thank-you to DRRHS art teacher Alexa Hamelin for collaborating on the drawing of Vashti and her magic paintbrush featured in the display.

Our Alumni Spotlight this month features Eliana Raposa, Dighton-Rehoboth Class of 2022, who recently earned her master’s degree in Statistics from UMass Amherst and landed her dream job as a Pro Player Analyst for the Kansas City Royals.
After D-R, Eliana attended St. Thomas Aquinas College, earning her B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science and a minor in Economics. She graduated summa cum laude in just three years while also excelling as a collegiate softball player. She continued her education and softball career at UMass Amherst, where she earned her master’s degree.
Looking Back…
“The most impactful part of my time at Dighton-Rehoboth was Coach Madsen. She served as a role model and mentor that was a constant force of encouragement and wisdom. In terms of classes, D-R offered me the ability to take a rigorous course load, including enrolling in a virtual high school class, which through testing allowed me to enter college having already earned 33 credits, giving me the opportunity to graduate with my bachelors degree a year early.”
Advice to a D-R Student…
“My advice to current D-R students would be to take advantage of every opportunity you have and to get involved. It helps you to become more well-rounded and teaches you how to work and interact with a group of people that you may not have thought to before. You learn how to manage your time better, a skill that will be a great benefit in the future, and most importantly allows you to have fun and do something that you are interested in outside of academics.”
Eliana’s internships—including working in player development with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod League—helped her discover her passion for working in sports and ultimately helped lead her to her dream career in Major League Baseball.
